The importance of knowing yourself and your why.
Amy Hageman 00:15
Hello loves! Welcome back to the Living Out Love Podcast. I'm Amy Hageman, I am back from some of our summer travels. My kids are not in school yet. So it still feels like summer shenanigans around here. But I'm very excited to be back and to start getting back into the routine of recording the podcast for you all, I have some exciting announcements to make today and in the future. But first I want to talk about the importance of knowing yourself, and of knowing why you've probably heard that phrase before, you can check out Simon Sinek he has two books. The first one is to start with why. And the second one is to know your why. And so if you want to learn more about that I highly recommend Simon Sinek check out his work. You may or may not remember that prior to starting my spiritual intuitive business, I was a leadership development facilitator and coach. So it's pretty typical for me to be referencing people of that sort. So I'm going to tell you a little story about the importance of knowing your why. And I want to start with when I started this business many years ago, I wanted to start this business that has come to be known as my dot love business. And you know, for the sake of marketing for having a tagline and for the sake of my own clarity, and what do I want to offer people? How do I want to help people? I spent some time thinking about what's my why, what's my why. And I decided that I wanted to create healing, clarity, and inspiration. And to me that adds up to transformation. I wanted to help people create lasting transformation in their lives, but the How was through healing, clarity, and inspiration, which I also sort of gathered was a past present future thing. I wanted to meet people in the healing of their past gain clarity of the present and create inspiration for a different future. And so, with those three things, I think a lot about how am I doing with that, as a business owner, you know, in a one-to-one reading, typically, clients will receive at least one if not two of those three things, healing, clarity, inspiration, you know, it can be very healing to connect with a family member or a pet that has crossed over and to feel seen by them and to understand that your relationship continues, that can be very healing, you can get a lot of clarity out of that.
Amy Hageman 03:00
And in my readings, you know, there's a lot of talking to guides and angels about what am I not saying in this situation? What should I look for in another job, having the opportunity to ask those questions is absolutely valuable. And I feel like even you know, I'm not a predictive psychic, I don't tell people what's going to happen because we are co-creators. So I can only tell you what's most likely to happen based on what you've been creating in your vibration right now. But even with the amount of predictiveness. In my readings, there's a great deal of inspiration to be found in asking guides and angels, what's possible for the future, like what's in what's in the realm of possibility for me and having them come in and give incredible insight and inspiration.
Amy Hageman 03:55
So I'm not discounting the amount of transformation that can happen from a 45 minute reading, because I know that things that are said, can stick with us and change us as we move forward. But I have been working on some new offers for you all. I'm not launching any of those today. But I keep coming back to my why when I think about what else could I be doing? What's my why? What am I here to provide? Why did I create this business? Yes, I want to help people in their personal transformation process but how can I best provide healing? How can I best offer clarity? How can I create inspiration for people?
Amy Hageman 04:39
And here's the plot twist. I have started learning more about astrology. And if you've listened to previous episodes, you also know that I've been working with the Enneagram and learning more about the Enneagram. So later in the year, September, or October, I'll be announcing how that's manifesting how that can serve you, and how I can serve you through those outlets. But what I want to say about these tools, well both astrology and the Enneagram are 1000s of years old. We think about astrology as being Oh, your monthly horoscope and People Magazine. But that's, that is not what astrology is. And astrology historically was used. It's a highly mathematical process. So now that we have computers and algorithms, we're able to access it. But historically, it was used for kings and queens and you had to have highly skilled mathematicians doing astrology. And it was done more at a community level, like what are we experiencing as a community? What does the astrology say about that? Same thing with the Enneagram.
Amy Hageman 05:47
The Enneagram is 1000s of years old. And it was done for a long time in the Catholic Church. It was only used for a priest and nobility and for nuns. They also saw it as a way of their own personal transformation and as a way of understanding the human psyche and how they could help others in their realm of the Catholic Church. So I just want to give you that context of understanding, because I think, in this day and age, we are gifted to have YouTube and Instagram and to have a really accessible means of accessing these tools. But because of that, we tend to kind of casualize it and underestimate its value, it seems ubiquitous. And so we tend to underestimate what all it can do for us. So I've been working with and learning a lot more about the Enneagram and astrology, and really getting my teeth into just how effective these tools are, and giving us a deeper understanding, providing us with clarity around who we are, around who other people might be, and around why we do the things that we do, why other people do the things that they do, and how all of us might be capable of doing it better, what that might look like.
Speaking at an astrology conference in California.
Amy Hageman 07:22
So I've been studying astrology, as I said, and in my own personal transits. I have been encouraged my assignment so to speak, is that I'm supposed to be taking more of a leadership role. I'm supposed to be putting myself out there more I'm supposed to be speaking and teaching more. Some of that is just in my chart all the time. And some of that is being highlighted in the next year, a year and a half.
Amy Hageman 07:49
And so I'm excited to announce that I'm going to be speaking at and sponsoring the Astro bash conference in California. This is an astrology conference with a lot of really neat, interesting astrology speakers, plus one psychic speaker. And I'm so excited about it. This is as interesting to say the least you're probably thinking but Amy, you're not an astrologer. So why would you speak in an astrology conference? It is because of my why? It's because of my why. And providing clarity. That's my wife. So providing clarity and inspiration, I had some conversations with my guides about what they would want me to talk about and how that would be helpful to astrologers. And so that's what I'll be doing while I'm there. It's also living out my purpose and living out what my chart is calling me to do my charts calling me to step up and to do more speaking. And so when the opportunity arose, which it was definitely one of those Divine Alignment spirit knocks on your door and says, Hey, look at this type of moments. And so because I knew my astrology, and because I knew my chart, and because I knew my Enneagram and what things are hard for me were the challenges I needed to overcome. This was it was a pretty, pretty obvious opportunity that I needed to go for that doesn't mean it was easy. I can talk to my friends and my family about how much I hesitated to reach out and to be a speaker and asked to sponsor even though my spirit was like, hey, hey, Amy, here it is. Here it is. Go for it.
Why knowing yourself is so important?
Amy Hageman 09:43
So yeah, it's exciting. The Astro bash conference in California, Borrego Springs, California. It's gonna be September 28 Through October 2. Obviously, the link will be in the show notes and on the website, check it out. You are welcome to join me I am so excited. It's gonna be so much fun. There will be time for readings while we're there. Most of the people giving readings will be astrologers giving astrological readings and then I will also be there giving my type of readings So that's exciting news number one.
Amy Hageman 10:26
Since I'm in the photo, the phase of announcement, I'll go ahead and say exciting news number two is today'sAugust 30. So it is one of the last days to sign up for the 40-day meditation journey. And if you would like to join us in that, find the link in the show notes. It's 40 days of meditation, followed by a one live Zoom event where we all get on and talk about our experiences. I'll lead us through a joint meditation or energetic healing, and then we'll do some channeling together. So you can find out more about that at the link in the show notes. Okay, so I want to come back to this idea of knowing yourself and knowing your why and why is it so important. And that is because life is going to hand you opportunities.
Amy Hageman 11:08
I mean, everything's an opportunity. Some are the fun of, or the form of fun experiences, like astrology conferences, and some are experiences that we wish we could skip. But they're all opportunities to show up. And when you know yourself, well, all of your lightness, your skills, your effervescence, and all of your darknesses, your weaknesses, your unhealthy fears. When you know yourself, well, you have a framework and a context for how to be successful, and you know what to look out for. I tend to be an emotional eater. So if I'm headed into a period of high stress, I kind of know ahead of time that if I don't prioritize meal planning, if I don't prioritize having not too tempting a portion of food around the house, then I'm going to be likely to over eat processed food or over eat indulging foods, and then that's only going to make me feel worse during a stressful period. I know that about myself. And so I can plan accordingly.
Knowing yourself helps you navigate different situations.
Amy Hageman 12:16
On a positive side, I know that I'm a pretty strong communicator. So if I get into perhaps a delicate social situation, then I know I might be an ideal person to volunteer to be a mediator of sorts. That's a gift I have that could possibly serve others. So knowing those things about myself, help me navigate different situations as they arise. Knowing yourself helps you navigate situations as they arise with, with awareness and with intention. And knowing your why is important. If a situation arises, and I know my why as a person, I'm here to embody love and to teach others to do the same. I know that's my why. And I knew that before I ever saw my astrology chart, but now I definitely know. That's why I'm here. So when situations arise, I can go back to what is the best embodiment of love in this situation? How can I teach others to embody love in this situation, that's why I'm here.
Amy Hageman 13:27
As a business owner, I'm here to help create transformation in the world. Whether that's one step one person at a time, one group at a time, that's what I'm here to do. I'm here to create personal transformation, through healing, clarity and inspiration, through the movement towards love. That's what I'm here to do. So when life hands me, and are my business, difficult or exciting opportunities, knowing who I am and why I'm here, or what provide me with clarity. Knowing what I want to do with my business is what provides me with clarity, it helps me to stay aware. It helps me to stay intentional about what I do what I say who I talk to.
Amy Hageman 14:16
And I have to say knowing my astrological transits provides a great, great deal of additional insight into what is being asked of me. If you don't know what transits are transits is an astrological term for the planets moving in the sky and how that affects us as a collective or you as an individual. So knowing my transits means knowing what is the energy supporting me to do are challenging me to do at a certain time. And we're going to be learning a lot more about astrology on this podcast but I'll save that for another episode.
Amy Hageman 14:57
So that's what I have for you today loves know your why know who you are, know your why it is going to help you make decisions, doesn't mean the decisions will be easy. It doesn't mean that just because you know Okay, This is what I've been called to do, all of a sudden, you're going to be like, well, piece of cake. It's not going to take the hard out of life or the difficult or the complex out of life, but it will provide clarity and a point of focus. If you want to learn more about knowing your why, follow Simon Sinek on social, check out his TED talks on YouTube or look at his look at his books, links are in the show notes.
Amy Hageman 15:40
And if you want to join me in Borrego Springs, California at the end of September, join me we have a month to get it figured out. And there's a lot more information about the astrology conference on their website link is in the show notes. If you want to join me for the 40 day meditation, I would love to have you meditate with me. All of those meditations are short and sweet. I think the longest one is 10 minutes. Most of them are closer to five minutes. So it's just just enough everyday to help you shift your body and your mind to help you shift you vibrationally get you more in alignment with your highest self. And the journeys, the meditation sort of gum one after the other. They're designed day one through 40 to keep you on a little bit of a journey. It's a beautiful process.
Amy Hageman 16:23
So that is all for today, loves I do want to mention that I had sort of said that season two of Living Out Love what's going to be one episode every month one behind-the-scenes reading every month, interspersed with me talking at you every other episode. And because of summer vacation, that pattern started to get disrupted. And there are a lot of really exciting interviews coming up. I cannot wait to tell you about all of them. And I'm not quite sure so you're just gonna have to hang in there with me. And together let's find out.
